Repost of People's Daily Authoritative Release: Resistant Starch is the Liver's "Natural Cleaner"
Release time:
2025-12-10
Recently, the People's Daily Health Client published news introducing the significant role of resistant starch in improving fatty liver and metabolic health. The report also pointed out common dietary sources of resistant starch and scientific intake recommendations, providing practical health guidance for the public.
Research Finds Resistant Starch Can Effectively Reduce Liver Fat
Research from the research group of Li Huating at Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine shows that inter-individual variation in the gut microbiome mediates the efficacy of resistant starch against metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). The related paper was published in the journal Cell Metabolism. This study enrolled a total of 240 patients with fatty liver disease, having them supplement with 40 grams of resistant starch daily. After adhering to this for 4 months, 70% of participants showed significant results, with liver fat reduced by over 30%. The other 30% of participants experienced a 7% reduction. The results indicate that daily appropriate supplementation of resistant starch can effectively reduce liver fat.

Furthermore, the research group of Academician Jia Weiping also published a journal article in 2023 demonstrating that a diet rich in resistant starch can alter gut bacterial composition, and reduce triglyceride levels and liver enzyme levels associated with liver injury and inflammation, thereby alleviating fatty liver.

Five Major Health Functions of Resistant Starch
The People's Daily Health Client summarized the multiple health benefits of resistant starch:
-
Slow digestion helps regulate blood sugar and blood lipids
-
High dietary fiber content aids in weight control
-
Macromolecular prebiotic protects gut health
-
Anti-inflammatory effect mitigates non-alcoholic fatty liver disease
Common Household Sources of Resistant Starch and Scientific Intake Recommendations
Resistant starch does exist in foods, but its relative content is limited. Commercially produced resistant starch on a large scale has been promoted in countries like the United States for over 20 years and has received functional evaluation from the FDA. Series of resistant starch produced by Xiangyu in Beijing, China, have also been promoted for over 6 years, serving major food, health product, and other enterprise clients, and exported to multiple countries including Europe, America, Japan, and South Korea.
