On June 26, 2024, T/CNLIC 0145-2024 "General technical requirements for Food with low glycemic index (GI)" group standard, which was led by China Light Industry Federation and China Food and Fermentation Industry Research Institute, was officially released and implemented on the date of release.

Glycemic Index (GI) is an index that reflects the effect of carbohydrates-containing foods on postprandial blood glucose. A low-GI diet has been widely confirmed to be one of the effective nutritional interventions for combating chronic diseases such as diabetes and overweight/obesity. Formulating scientific and reasonable general technical requirements for low GI foods is an important technical means to ensure the authenticity of nutritional attributes of low GI foods, which can improve the standard management system of low GI foods in China and promote the good and orderly development of the low GI food market in China.

In September 2022, the China Light Industry Federation issued a notice of group standard development plan (Document No. 244 of China Light Union Standard [2022]), which included this group standard in the development plan (project No. : 2022023), and by the China light industry federation under centralized, food fermentation industry research institute co., LTD., China light food industry in management center, jingdong group led to develop together. Upon examination and approval by the project, the standard drafting, for advice, expert review procedures, this standard formally approved on June 26, 2024.

Standard specifies the basic requirement of low GI foods, GI index, essential nutrients, such as requirements, describes the corresponding test method, and specifies the production standard, the content of the label and logo, suitable for low GI foods production inspection and marketing.
